New Widnes Leisure Complex, The Wave

Plans for an exciting new multi-million pound entertainment complex on Ashley Way at Widnes Waterfront are progessing well. It is estimated that this development will create 250 jobs over the next three years.

The project includes a five-screen cinema which Widnes has been crying out for, an ice rink, bowling alley, climbing wall and restaurants. The design uses 3 large metal double wave roofs with troughs and peaks intersecting along the 200m long string of buildings . Large colourful geometric shapes are used to dramatic effect to create and signify entrances to the various leisure functions on site. This major new Widnes development will feature heat recycle technology as well as measures designed to re-use grey water from the massive roofs.

Loughborough-based cinema chain Reel Cinemas has already signed up to open summer 2008, the Reel Widnes will house 5 dolby digital surround screens with modern comfortable seating, cafe bar, concessions kiosk and a box office. They will screen the latest movies for all ages and the main blockbusters on their release dates.

For job opportunities at Reel Widnes please send a CV to: Reel Widnes Human Resources, c/o Reel Cinemas Ltd, Head Office, 7 Cattle Market, Loughborough, LE11 3DL or email to recruitment@reelcinemas.co.uk.

Leisure Living will operate the new Widnes ice rink which will be will be large enough to stage ice hockey matches and accommodate a range of clubs for figure skating and ice dance, discussions are underway to confirm operators for the bowling alley and the climbing wall.

Councillor Tony McDermott, Leader of Halton Borough Council, said: “Venture Fields is potentially the most exciting leisure development to come to Halton for many years. Not only will it mean many new jobs for local people, it has the facilities that will improve the quality of life for many people throughout the Borough. This is a key project which I’m sure will become a great success for Halton.”

I agree, I am fed up of having to take the kids to Runcorn or Warrington, it looks like this new place is going to be better than them anyway.
